THE HUGE POTENTIAL MARKET OF INDIA IS YET TO BE TAPPED FOR WI-FI EQUIPMENT SALES

One of the major growing economies of the world is India with all the MNCs flocking in by the day with their superior services and products. Since the country is an IT hub one would expect the best of computer technology in the offing here.

The trouble is however that the broadband market is still not on par with the other major countries of the world which will already see the fiber broadband network replacing current copper based broadband network. This would give unimaginable greater speeds to the people having access. In 2007 Tonse Telecom even ambitiously claimed that the Indian Wi-Fi market would be of about $744 million by the year 2012.

The two major things that dealt a meaty blow to this potential boost were the recession in the first place which greatly affected the Laptop market sales as well. Secondly is the inability and laziness on part of the national government to seriously penetrate the vast country and give a majority of the population access to the internet.

A mere 10 million internet subscribers exist in the country today which is actually sad. However the Laptop sales were up by about 87% in FY 2009-10 which comes as a great sign of recovery as well as a positive future. The Personal Computer market is also expected to see a boost in terms sales. This should also be a good sign for the sales of Wi-Fi equipments.

By the time the new year of 2011 arrives there will be a good 20 million users of broadband including business users as well as private households. None the less this is a good sign. While when it comes to Wi-Fi equipments sales again the households market substantially overwhelms the enterprises.
